Promoting a 100% zero emissions transportation future for a livable climate

WHAT IS ZERO EMISSIONS TRANSIT?

Climate change is already harming the health and livelihoods of Angelenos. The transportation sector is the largest producer of greenhouse gases. Zero Emissions Transit is a non-profit organization focused on creating and building zero-emission transit options that will better connect all of our communities. We firmly believe that by working together, we can “get to zero.”

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to reduce greenhouse emissions in the transportation sector. This means innovating zero emissions transportation infrastructure, adding better choices for how people get around, and implementing it now. We seek to build more connected communities that provide all residents equitable economic growth and environmental benefits.

 BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Suja Lowenthal, Board Chair, City Manager of Hermosa Beach

“Polluted air, water, and soil, and a warming climate are harming life on earth in both imaginable and unimaginable ways. Simply put, we are in an existential crisis. We as individuals, communities, cities, states, and nations are called on to act.” – Suja Lowenthal

David Kim, Former California Secretary of Transportation

“We need to do everything possible to give people more travel choices that do not involve driving their car. Expanding zero emission transit is essential if we care about improving air quality, reducing congestion, promoting equity and improving safety.” – David Kim

THE LA ART GONDOLA PROJECT

We are proud to be the sponsor and a long-time supporter of the Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit (LA ART) gondola project. We believe the project will be a catalyst for zero-emissions transit projects across Los Angeles.

The zero-emissions aerial gondola system will connect Los Angeles Union Station, Chinatown, and Dodger Stadium, in 7 minutes end to end. LA ART will take up to 3,000 cars off the roads on game days and boost public transportation ridership. LA ART will connect the communities of El Pueblo, Chinatown, Mission Junction, Solano Canyon, and William Meade Homes 365 days a year and increase access to green spaces like Los Angeles State Historic Park and Elysian Park.

A recent poll found that 77 percent of Los Angeles residents support the gondola.

LOS ANGELES TIMES EDITORIAL: LET THE DODGER GONDOLA TAKE FLIGHT. L.A. NEEDS MORE TRANSIT OPTIONS

“It’s an embarrassment that a city the size and stature of Los Angeles still lacks speedy and reliable public transit to one of the nation’s finest ballparks… L.A. desperately needs more transit projects of all sorts but has a sad history of delay and inaction on subway, light rail, bus lanes and other projects that faced neighborhood-level opposition.”
